Aquascope for Kids to Explore Water
Educational Insights Nancy BS Science Club Aquascope
Contents:
- 1 Aquascope
- 1 Interactive activity journal
Design:
The product design for the Aquascope is brilliantly child friendly. The Aquascope is a nice large tubular device with a base color the green. There is fun underwear designs including fish and shells in a nice delicate white illustration. To top it off, the details are in a nice shade of purple. Very child friendly and pretty.
Use:
The best part of the Aquascope is that it makes exploring science fun. Bring your little one to a body of water. Although a lake is best as there is more to see, yes this can be used with saltwater as well. I know this is amazing. Once you have arrived let your little one explore.
All the child has to do is place the base of the Aquascope in the water and focus using the telescoping lens. It has three different layers so it can really get close up to nature. It this is not cool enough, let your child use the light feature. Not all bodies of water have direct sunlight. Just click the green button and the Aquascope will shine a beam of light on your new underwater discoveries.
The best part of the Aquascope is the ability to take it part. Nothing is waterproof. And yes one of my girls did drop this in the water. At first I thought we really broke it, but when we took it part, it was dry a day later. Great feature as this is used both around water and with kids.
Pros:
- Allows kids to closely explore underwater science
- The journal helps guid the child
- The light helps bring detail to the big underwater world
- Colorful
- Fun
- Child friendly
- Can be taken apart and cleaned
Cons:
- Focusing can be a little difficult for a younger child. The telescoping feature is not as sturdy as I would like so you need one hand on the base of the Aquascope and another hand for focusing. Older kids usually can do this issue free.
Suggestions:
- If you do not have a body for water, create one. Fill a portable pool or bathtub with water. Place some toys that will not float on the bottom of the pool and let your child explore. It will be fun for you child while he is learning all about focal distance.
- When you are by a body of water like a stream or an ocean, without using the activity journal, ask your child to use his own words to talk about what he sees. He will be surprised by all the different things under the water and expressing them will be a great verbal season.
Bottom Line:
The Aquascope is a lot of fun. Kids are often exploring the world they live in, that the water world can be left out. Kids will be surprised by not only seeing different fish and rocks, but there is a whole new wold left to be discovered. As a toy, this is fun but the education that will come from it is well worth the investment.
