Memo N Matching Game Seasonal
Memo N Matching Game - Seasonal
Contents:
- 4 seasons cards
- 16 wooden season tiles
Summary:
Teaching kids seasons is super important. I think it is one of the skills that is usually tough as early as possible. Even if they are not fought intentionally, when they get dressed in the morning, the weather plays a huge roll as to what they wear. That being said, putting all of this into words can be a little difficult. For example when a child is cold, they might know to put on a sweater but they might not know that in the winter it is cold and snowy so wear a coat.
I was very happy when I came across Memo N Matching Game - Seasonal. The game play is very simple. Each child gets a board. The board has four squares and deals with only one season. For example on the summer board there is a sun, a tree, a bathing suit and a sand theme. After all the seasons are given out and the tiles are placed downward no the table, it is time for the game to begin. Each child takes turns flipping over the tiles and seeing if it belongs with them. If not, they put it back and the game moves on. The child who has all their pieces first wins.
Pros:
- Teaches seasons
- Memory
- Matching
- Simple and fast
- Fun
Cons:
- I was a little disappointed with the cards. The tiles are made with such a good quality wood, I was sad to see the cards made out of cardboard, I would have liked to see them made out of a wooden or even plastic board. Something of substance.
Suggestions:
- If there is just you and your child around and your child has mastered all of the seasons, put the cards away. See if your child can sort out the different tiles. For example face all the tiles on the floor and have your child pick on tile at a time. Have them place all the spring tiles in one pile separate from the summer, winter and fall. After your child is done sorting, let them see one card at a time. This will be a great opportunity to see if they can self check their work.
- Have four children sitting with a different season. As one child turns over a tile, have them talk about it. For example if a child has spring, and they turn over the fall rake, let them say "This is for fall. Fall is when the leaves fall down and in spring they grow." If a child gets stuck, it will be okay for another child to help them out. This can be made to a group verbal activity.
Age Range:
- 3 and older
- Child learning seasons
Bottom Line:
I really like Plan Toys. They make quality items for children and Memo N Matching Game - Seasonal is not exception. This toy is a simple game that helps show children the differences between seasons. All of the wooden pieces are well crafted and the children love the simple designs. They are large enough to fit in small hands and the arched top allows the child to grab it up with ease. I plan on using it with my special needs kids as well.
